CEL offers expertise in a broad range of electronic technologies that enable us to develop complex high-performance analog and RF instrumentation and controls quickly and at low cost. The following specific technologies have been recently applied in our work:

Design and Development Tools

CEL uses a range of popular CAD tools for developing and documenting your designs. We also maintain contacts with a network of design professionals for cases where our in-house CAD tools are not compatible with your needs.

Our in-house tools include:

  • AutoCAD and SolidWorks for mechanical models and drawings
  • OrCAD, Altium and PADS for schematic capture and printed circuit board layouts
  • MathCAD and Excel for analysis
  • Altera MAX+ II and Xilinx ISE for Programmable Logic Development
  • Visual C++ for Windows and Linux-based control applications

Prototype Manufacturing

CEL offers an advanced in-house capability to manufacture prototype electronics. Often we will outsource custom sheet metal or enclosure fabrication tasks, however we can also perform basic machining tasks in our shop, including sheet metal forming, drilling, tapping and connector cutout punching.

Our in-house prototyping capabilities include:

  • Printed circuit board assembly, including SMT to 0402 sizes
  • Basic machining capability - sheet metal forming, drilling and punching
  • Coaxial cable assembly - flexible and semirigid

In addition to our in-house capability, we work closely with several contract manufacturers specializing in low-volume and prototype electronics manufacturing.

Prototypes are fully documented and manufactured in accordance with a set of procedures and policies that help to guarantee a reproducible and reliable design. Our procedures include the following key elements that have been designed to be consistent with best manufacturing practices while providing the necessary flexibility required for rapid prototyping:

  • Design Control System
  • Document Control System
  • Work Order System
  • Materials Management and Control System
  • ESD Control System - wrist straps/footwear/smocks

Test and Measurement Equipment

For acceptance and development, CEL employs calibrated test and measurement equipment traceable to NIST. Our in-house equipment includes:

  • Agilent 8561E Spectrum Analyzer 30Hz to 6.5GHz
  • Agilent 8753C 300kHz to 6 GHz Vector Network Analyzer
  • Agilent 8656B 0.1 to 990 MHz Signal Generator

Other equipment is rented or leased as required. We can obtain necessary gear within one day through our account with Continental Resources, a local major T&M instrument provider. .
